Veteran Preference Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred.)
Certified by the State of Florida in an exceptional education area.
Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience in exceptional education, or comparable experience in a behavioral mental health program.
Knowledgeable about and experienced with working with students on the Autism Spectrum.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current trends and research in exceptional student education.
Knowledge of issues related to exceptional student curriculum and instructional techniques.
Knowledge of current educational research in the area of behavioral disorders.
Knowledge of basic principles of applied behavioral analysis and positive behavior support systems.
Ability to organize and conduct meetings, to provide conflict resolutions, to communicate, plan, and disseminate precise information of technical issues relating to exceptional student education.
Ability to develop and implement functional behavioral assessments and behavioral management plans using appropriate intervention strategies at various levels of intensity.

Job Goal:

To assure delivery of appropriate public education for exceptional students by assessing, developing, training, and monitoring programs which bring about behavioral change.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the completion of functional behavioral assessments for students with disabilities.
Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
Provide training for teachers, parents, and staff in identifying targeted behavior(s) and in procedures of proposed plans.
Maintain a current knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws affecting exceptional student education.
Assist ESE and general education teachers in developing strategies to work with students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
Conduct manifestation of handicapped IEP meetings.
Participate in parent conferences/IEP meetings, as appropriate.
Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Assist the school team in developing behavioral intervention plans for student with disabilities.
Provide individual and small group activities designed to improve students’ interpersonal relationships and social skills.
Provide in-service education to school staff regarding discipline and behavior management interventions.
Provide technical assistance to the Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities (EBD) program at the specific school and/or separate school.
Serve as a liaison between school, parents, students, and District Office.
Assist in developing forms, formats, and procedures for Exceptional Student Education (ESE).
Provide technical assistance to new teachers, bus drivers, and teacher assistants.
Use interpersonal communication skills.
Assist general education teachers in working with students who have been in exceptional education programs and are returning to regular class placement.
Assist schools in the review of students being referred, entering, exiting, and continuing placement in the EBD Program at the specific school and/or separate school.
Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. •

Essential Performance Responsibilities Requirements:
Heavy Work:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
