Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Teacher plans and provides individualized instruction to children with disabilities and typical role models ages birth to three years old. Incumbent in this position demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. Responsibilities Develop teaching materials and procedures necessary for children to acquire knowledge and skills appropriate to their developmental level. Use integrative, hands-on collaborative activities that encourage children to explore all classroom areas utilizing best practice curriculum. Responsible for curriculum instruction and administration of child development assessments. Individualize instruction and set objectives for each child in the class. Use effective academic and behavior management techniques to maintain appropriate learning environment for all children in the classroom. Prepare children progress reports and evaluations in a timely manner and actively participate in child staffing meetings along with Service Coordinator, Therapists, Miami Dade County Public School Staffing Specialist and children’s family members. Assume clerical duties for the classroom such as: complete children daily reports, document children attendance and follow up on absent students, maintain accurate meal service records, prepare parent-teacher meetings, complete ongoing child observations (keynotes) and complete school communication records when needed. Maintain a safe a clean classroom and school environment at all times and report maintenance related matters timely. Attend professional development meetings and conferences in order to complete required annual in-service hours and or other professional certifications required for the position. Assist with school’s special events as needed. Assist with student crisis as needed. Follow Easter Seals policies and procedures, DCF standards and other regulations to ensure high quality of service. Report any suspected child abuse/neglect to the DCF hotline and well as school administration. Document your arrival and departure time on a daily basis in the staff sign in and out sheet and complete full-time employee time sheet as required in the payroll calendar. Ensure the safety of all staff, volunteers, visitors and individuals receiving services at Easter Seals. Act in compliance with Medical and Non-Medical Emergency Procedures Assist Individuals in evacuating the building during emergency situation to include but not limited to fire drills and external disaster drills. Specific duties to be assigned by immediate supervisor. Assume assigned responsibility for non-clinical duties during disaster and/or drills including but not limited to safety of files/office areas, closure of doors. Other related duties as necessary may be assigned to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of agency.
Physical Demands:
Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 50 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, walking, squatting, pushing, pulling, kneeling or sitting on the floor. The work is in a childcare setting. In order to conduct activities and interact with children in a meaningful way, some physical exertion such as the following physical demands are required: Noise level can be moderate to loud. Detecting unsafe situations by sight or sound. Moving quickly to intervene in unsafe situations.
Educational & Experiential Requirements:
Associate Degree (60 college credits) required; but Bachelor Degree preferred. Department of Children and Families (DCF) 45 hours of required childcare training. Maintain an active Child CPR & First Aid certification or completion in the first 90 days of employment. Supervised teaching experience preferred Minimum of one (1) year experience working with children Ability to motivate students Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal with proactive communication style Ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships Ability to take initiative and meet objectives Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information of participants and staff Desire to improve the lives of people with disabilities and or special needs.

Successful completion of background process which includes: Local background check, Level 2 clearance (FBI, FDLE), clear TB test, medical clearance, drug test and reference checks.
