The Mandala School is an academically challenging, independent day school in the Palm Valley area of Ponte Vedra Beach designed to educate students from three months through fifth grade. The school is based on best practice and research on the most effective methods in child development and education. Lively atmosphere Safe work environment Wellness programs A Special Needs Teacher is an educator who specializes in teaching children with physical, mental, emotional, and learning disabilities. They develop tailored teaching plans, collaborate with parents and staff, and assess students’ progress to help them achieve important learning milestones. In accordance with the individual and collective needs of the ages of the population served by The Mandala School, the Special Needs Teacher will develop appropriate curriculum-based activities and work daily to set curriculum-based goals, helping students meet their maximum potential. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Attitude:
Greets student and parent with respectful and welcoming attitude Articulates and interprets school philosophy Speaks in a tone of voice that relays respect for those you are speaking with Communication with students and parents (as needed): Discusses daily expectations Reviews rules Reviews broad daily schedule and any changes occurring that day or week Reviews home notes or communication from parents and respond appropriately and in a timely manner
Teaching:
Presents materials in an organized and concise manner, following lesson plans Provides remedial tasks for those who need additional support Provides enrichment for those who have mastered particular skills
Process Student Information:
Records student tardy or absence Records student responses on developmental assessments Records student incidences; provides copies to the Director of School Operations Inputs student progress data daily into appropriate tracking system
Planning:
Submits lesson plans to the administrative team by the designated deadline Conducts ongoing research on activities and assignments that are age, developmental level and academically appropriate for students Attends classroom planning meetings to prepare lessons and determines/communicates student needs Update goals and programming based on curriculum
Professional Development/Coaching:
Attends faculty meetings with the leadership team Speaks with Head of School about concerns or training/resources needed Active member on accreditation committee Must Volunteer time for at least one Mandala School Community Event per year Must Volunteer time for at least one PTO sponsored event per year
Communication:
Attends teacher meetings Reviews material requests with Head of School Conducts a classroom-based observation of students On a quarterly basis: Collaborates with other Classroom Teachers on student progress, goal mastery and plans for upcoming school year.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to assume a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing) in the course of working with children with developmental disabilities and severe behavior problems. Must be able to lift and carry students in braces and other adaptive equipment. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions. Must be physically present at the assigned job site.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Individual must demonstrate competency across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by The Mandala School.
WORK EXPERIENCE
3 years of teaching experience or related educational experience providing services to students with disabilities.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Special Education preferred. The Mandala School is an EEO Employer Full-Time employees are eligible for
