PRIMARY FUNCTION
Provide developmentally and linguistically appropriate instruction, recognizing children have individual rates of development as well as individual interest, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles. Plan lessons in advance and implement curriculum with fidelity to ensure optimal child outcomes and to align to the HSPS. Work towards school readiness goals and track progress. Use home visits to gain knowledge and awareness of the child and to work with the parents as partners in their child’s education. Maintains all required program documentation, including an ongoing assessment portfolio of each child. Provides individualized instruction and support to each child. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline. Ensures child safety and maintain a clean learning environment. Supervise children at all times.
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities): Responsibility for assisting in the education and daily program of the classroom. Advocate for young children and their families. Assists with implementation and coordination of all Head Start functions. Identifies, reports, provides supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying immediate supervisor and appropriate agency. Assist with each of the two home visits per child within the school term. Must maintain constant active supervision of children in your care. Assist in the implementation of lesson plans. Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities. Assists teacher to implement the developmental assessment for each child to determine the child’s strengths and areas in which each child may need help. Assist the teacher in a Head Start preschool setting, which provides a comprehensive program to meet educational, emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs of children. Ensure all children receive individual attention. Be in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless designated by supervisor to another duty. Assists the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care. Contributes to the collection process of correct documentation for the Child Care Food Program (CCFP). Be knowledgeable about CCFP requirements regarding portions and components of each meal service. Conduct point of service meal documentation; count meals when children are seated and have been offered a credible meal by USDA standards for portions and components. Make best use of volunteer help. Enter point of service meal counts in appropriate forms or software used by program to support claim reimbursement. Assist with child assessments and screenings Assists on field trips and other school functions. Report illness or accidents to the Program Manager. Report student absences of three days or more to the Site Supervisor. Attend workshops, conferences and all in-service trainings. Participate in professional development activities. Maintain training hours and documentation as required. Acquire and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aide Assist with transportation duties including staff/child ratio, discipline and safety, if transportation is provided. Sit and eat with children during all meal times; provide and model good nutrition habits. Maintains detailed, accurate, up-to-date, and confidential records including: child health files, health services tracking system, and documentation of all activities; develops and submits timely reports of component service provision and activities as required. Other job duties as assigned. Follow the Standards of Conduct Reliably and skillfully use electronic devices, including but not limited to desktop computers, laptop computers, and tablet devices.

Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with other staff, club members, and volunteers.
External:
Maintains contact with members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
At least a CDA or equivalent or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education Florida Teaching Certificate is a plus, but not required. Exceptional Student Education Certification is a plus, but not required. Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Valid State Driver’s License Interpersonal skills Ability to accept responsibility for assigned duties, ability to understand verbal/written instructions/reports Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational journals. Ability to speak before groups of individuals. Good attendance history in previous position DCF Level II Background Screening must be performed and eligible results received before employment begins. Must be rescreened at least once every five years and remain eligible to continue employment. Physical examination and TB test are required as condition of initial employment and continued employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physically able to perform duties which may include, but not be limited to lifting (min. of 50 #), bending, moving, etc. Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements. Duties to be performed indoors and outdoors with and around young children. Travel by car, bus, airplane or train may also be required associated with attendance at conferences, meetings and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state and in some cases where some overnight travel may be required. Noise level in work environment may be moderate to loud. Work is typically performed in a classroom or outdoor setting and some office work may be required. Some evenings and weekend work may occasionally be required for events such as home visits, parent-teacher conferences, Parent Committee meetings, community and social events.
