This role collaborates, at all levels of the organization, on STEM activities and ensures that the initiatives are being implemented and utilized in alignment with the curriculum and behavior standards through professional development and training in the classrooms. Primary responsibilities include program instruction, curriculum development and revision, and materials management. The STEM Coordinator also hires, supervises, and mentors contract instructors who teach the program. This position reports to the Senior Programs Director. Professional Responsibilities Maintain and continue to develop comprehensive curriculum in STEM education for Elementary Campus. Collaborative cross departmentally on STEM initiatives school wide as part of the school’s curriculum and the use of STEM in the classrooms. Assist the School Principal, Classroom Teachers and other school peer groups to design PBL’s (Project Based Learning) opportunities both on-site and off-site in alignment with the curriculum. Develop, organize, coordinate and provide trainings for administrators and staff related to STEM best practices, NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and Common Core Integration strategies and the assimilation into the classroom. Create educational STEM opportunities for students through community outreach and business partnerships. Support all educational staff to ensure that purchased/licensed curriculum is being utilized to its fullest potential. Support classroom teachers by providing technological and project based resources to encourage exciting, robust and multi-sensory learning. Evaluate, design and monitor policies to promote gender equality in STEM. Provide support and technical assistance to involved partners. Work with administration, guidance and teaching staff to enhance parent involvement. Participate in available STEM trainings and experience STEM topics. Collaborate with Transition and Career Coordinators and align curriculum to ensure integration of academic and technical education with 21st century skills. Collaborate with Pathway’s Development Team in the writing of STEM grants. Manage awarded grant funds and outcomes and oversee the compliance and reporting of grants. Establish implementation goals and timelines for grants Assist in the creation of marketing plans for STEM projects. Any other duties, consistent with the functions of my department and job description qualified to perform. Collaborate to develop a diversity and flow in Science Program. Plan and implement STEM Fairs for student participants and their families. Organize optional and special events or activities for STEM Curiosity Lab students and their families. Program Management Foster working relationships with school administration and teachers Coordinate program logistics at each location and collaborate with principals, teachers, and parents Proactively recruit students to participate in the program and manage student application process’ Maintain clear and effective communication with parents, teachers, school administrators, and STEM instructors Assess student learning and evaluate the program’s success to monitor program effectiveness Document student assessment, attendance, student, parent, and teacher survey data and maintain effective systems for tracking and evaluating data Recruit, hire, mentor, and supervise part-time STEM program instructors and high school interns Develop ongoing training and professional development opportunities for STEM program instructors and high school interns Coordinate program logistics, instructional topics, and required teaching materials with STEM program instructors and high school interns Build program awareness through social media, web, and print materials in partnership with Walking Mountains’ marketing staff Annually write a detailed and comprehensive annual report of the STEM Curiosity Lab program Give presentations highlighting the implementation and impacts of the STEM Curiosity Lab program to audiences including prospective donors or grant providers, school district, or organization’s board of directors Actively participate in Walking Mountains Science Center staff meetings, committees, and staff retreats
Physical Requirements:
This position requires a high level of energy. Physical activities can include both sitting and standing for long periods of time; lifting, climbing, bending/stooping, grasping and pulling. Must have full range of motion in order to provide possible emergency care and/or administer effective/safe CPI techniques. This position requires walking and could include working in both an indoor environment as well as an outdoor environment (cold/hot). Technical Skills Excellent communication and conferencing skills when working with both internal (peers and students) and external customers (parents, LEAs and School Districts). This position requires experience in organizing community outreach projects relative to STEM. Familiarity with grant writing. Ability to provide positive and inspirational leadership. Excellent technology skills. Solid working knowledge of standards-based curriculum development and its relationship to STEM in the classrooms. Ability to objectively observe, coach, and mentor peers. Skills Proven experience as a teacher Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and procedures Excellent communicability and interpersonal skills Well-organized and committed Creative and energetic Strong moral values and discipline Knowledge of CPR Degree in teaching or in a specialized subject with a certificate in education; Empathy to care for students Ability to control a classroom Great scheduling ability Great organizational skills Great communication and listening skills Ability to communicate issues to parents State teaching certification Ability to get the most out of any student
