ABOUT GENESIS
Genesis Innovation Academy consists of two Atlanta-based, statewide charter schools: one for girls and one for boys. Both are open to all Georgia families. We are committed to developing scholars into path-breaking innovators, using the Academy’s own E5 curriculum model, which combines core subjects with Engineering, Economics, Ethics, Expression, and Entrepreneurship. DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, the special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for scholars with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for scholars with disabilities, such that the scholars benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supplied with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.
Specific Responsibilities :
Assist with caseload of special education scholars Collaborate with scholars, parents, teachers, staff, and consultants to develop IEPs Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to integrate accommodations and into regular lesson planning and curriculum Work cooperatively with teachers of record to deploy a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of assigned special needs scholars Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of scholar behavior according to IEP Provide instruction to small groups or individual scholars, as needed Participate in IEP meetings as needed Demonstrate knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching scholars with disabilities Compile and maintain accurate Special Education records and files Conduct assessments as needed for special education eligibility Assess, monitor and report progress toward IEP Goals and Objectives Complete all activities required for compliance with IDEA Submit required reports and documentation to administration Support scholars and parents with placement, curriculum, and instructional issues Keep detailed documentation from parent/scholar conference Maintain accurate and up to date scholar records in GO-IEP on-line system
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Special Education Certification Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations The Genesis Commitment to Faculty Our faculty members are highly valued as primary facilitators of scholar excellence.
