Job Description
Overall Purpose To evaluate students for the gifted program by administering assessments and analyzing data, while collaborating with gifted chairs to implement effective school-level gifted education programs. Work closely with educators and parents to support the academic and intellectual growth of gifted learners. Provide high-quality instruction and implement the approved curriculum for assigned students. Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom environment conducive to learning. Develop lesson plans and deliver both group and individualized instruction in alignment with established curriculum guidelines.
Essential Functions
Conduct Gifted Evaluations:
Administer and interpret both standardized and non-standardized assessments to evaluate students referred for gifted identification.
Analyze Assessment Data:
Review all assessment results and relevant data to develop a comprehensive understanding of student abilities and make informed recommendations for gifted evaluation and placement.
Collaborate with
Stakeholders:
Work closely with gifted chairs, teachers, and parents to review testing data and provide feedback on individual student documentation and placement decisions.
Support Policy Implementation:
Implement and review gifted program policies and procedures in collaboration with school-level gifted chairs.
Provide Ongoing Guidance:
Offer continued support to teachers and parents regarding gifted education practices. Advocate for the academic and emotional needs of gifted learners at both the school and district levels.
Monitor Student Progress:
Collect and analyze data to assess student progress and program effectiveness. Identify trends and use findings to guide instructional planning and inform program improvements.
Foster Collaboration:
Partner with teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents to ensure coordinated and effective support for gifted students.
Communicate with
Families:
Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians about their child’s gifted status, performance, and educational needs. Provide timely and accurate updates through conferences, phone calls, and written correspondence.
Employ Differentiated Instruction:
Use a variety of instructional strategies tailored to diverse backgrounds and learning styles at appropriate instructional levels.
Manage Student Behavior:
Promote and maintain appropriate student behavior in and out of the classroom, intervening when necessary to ensure a positive learning environment.
Adhere to
Professional Practices:
Follow school and district policies in interactions with students, families, and colleagues. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
Maintain Instructional Planning:
Prepare and maintain lesson plans as required by school policy to support effective instruction.
Engage in
Professional Development:
Complete all required activities as outlined in the Professional Development Plan annually, in accordance with state and district requirements.
Maintain Records:
Keep accurate, complete, and timely records and reports in compliance with school and district guidelines.
Stay Current in the
Field:
Demonstrate up-to-date content knowledge and stay informed about developments in instructional methods, learning theory, curriculum trends, and related fields. Actively participate in professional learning communities and other relevant meetings.
Perform Additional Duties:
Carry out other duties as assigned to support the effective and efficient operation of the gifted education program and the broader educational environment.
Requirements
Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned teaching field.
Must hold a Gifted certification.
Experience working with gifted students
Knowledge of gifted education theories, research, and best practices.
Strong assessment and evaluation skills.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
Education/Training
Maintains all licenses and certifications.
