Job Description
Special Education Teacher for small group instruction/inclusion programming for 3-5 students in third/fourth grade level
Responsibilities:
Complete evaluations, write IEPs, progress reports
Provide specialized instruction including curriculum development and accommodations to students with disabilities for students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or autism
Modify curriculum to grade level entry points as needed, implement functional curriculums in ELA and Math
Modify curriculum and provide accommodations in science and social studies in the inclusion setting
Implement behavior support plans and collect data to inform progress and interventions
Model and coach support staff for implementation of behavioral supports and accommodations
Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis, Social Thinking Curriculums, and Zones of Regulation required
Facilitate social skills groups and incidental teaching techniques for social skills
Communication with parents
Qualifications:
Master’s level required
3 years experience at least
Moderate Disabilities DESE certification in required grade level or Intensive for discovery
Requirements:
Must have at least 2 excellent references
Must pass all required screenings, including
CORI, SAFIS
fingerprinting, and 1-9 eligibility to work in the U.S.
Experience in working with children, preferably within an educational setting
Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
Must be physically capable of and willing to engage in providing levels of support which may include modeling, coaching, and verbal, visual, and/or physical prompts required to meet the student’s individual needs as stated in an IEP
Must be able to walk 8,000-10,000 steps per school day
Other qualifications will vary depending on the specific needs of the assigned
Physical Requirements:
This position may require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as are found in computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building.
