Job Description
Special Education Teacher/Transition Specialist needed to support students with disabilities with transition skill development as outlined in their Transition Planning Form of their IEP, complete vocational/transition assessments, provide support in CTE areas.
JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Transition Specialist/ Special Education Teacher is to provide students with the skills and aptitude to successfully develop soft skills, understand their areas of strengths and weaknesses in the workplace, and develop skills required to gain community employment. The purpose of this position is to assist individuals with disabilities in the acquisition of work maturity skills necessary to obtain employment and maintain employment in the community. The Special Education Transition Specialist Special Education Teacher will work to establish relationships with the Coop Coordinator and the CTE teachers to collaborate on how to support students’ needs. This support is individual-based and centered around transition-related skill development that focuses on helping students obtain the necessary transition abilities to ensure the highest level of independence as adults.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create or assist the special education teachers/team chairperson with the development and implementation of students’ TPF’s.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and analyze data on students in need of individualized instruction.
- Prepare a specific vocational curriculum in order to support students’ Individual Education plans.
- Plan vocational activities for students to reinforce the classroom curriculum.
- Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Plans by providing students with vocational in individualized or group settings in their CTE areas.
- Consistently model appropriate work maturity skills to hold students accountable to similar expectations.
- Monitor student work performance and provide feedback and prompts when needed.
- Provide proper documentation on all student work performance.
- Ensure safety is maintained in the work environment at all times.
- Provide consultation to teachers, team leaders, and other appropriate personnel regarding students’ individualized needs and individualized educational plans.
- Provide push-in and pull-out services as well as vocational/transitional assessments to students as directed by their IEP’s.
- Perform other related duties as directed or as responsibilities necessitate.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. DESE Certified Special Education Teacher, High School
2. DESE Transition Endorsement a plus
3. High School related experience, including work in the classroom, in the community and in the workplace
4. Knowledge of special education procedures and policies.
5. Demonstrated ability to meet students’ transition needs, described in student IEPs.
