REPORTS TO

Building Principal and Director of Special Education

JOB DESCRIPTION

Special Educator for our High School Life Skills Program to provide students with academic instruction, daily living skills, , and pre-vocational training. The educator will work to foster independence and prepare students for post-secondary opportunities. Teacher for moderate to intensive needs classroomProgramming will focuses on: Functional academics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following: Other duties may be assigned. 1.PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGEContinuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum.

Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.

Attend annual IEP meetings, monitor progress toward identified goals and write IEP goals 2.

PLANNING FOR

INSTRUCTIONSet short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning.

Develop and maintain lesson plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate.

Work with families to support students3.USE

OF MATERIALS AND

EQUIPMENTIntegrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning.4.EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTIONPromote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.

Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.5.LEARNING ENVIRONMENTEstablish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.

Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.

Coordinates services to students as prescribed in Individual Educational Plans.6.EFFECTIVE

RELATIONSHIPSMaintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
