REPORTS TO
Director of Special Education, Building Principal
JOB MISSION
To lead, encourage, and assist students to develop their individual potential for intellectual, emotional growth, resulting in their learning and achievement of high standards of knowledge and functional skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.PROFESSIONAL
KNOWLEDGE
1.1Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum.
1.2Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
1.3Knowledge/experience with highly systematic program in reading and mathematics.
1.4Knowledge/experience with instructional methodology for students with language challenges.
2.
PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION
2.1Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular Individual Educational Plans based on sound principles and practices of learning.
2.2Develop and maintain lesson plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate.
2.3 Assess students learning styles and academic functioning.
3.USE
OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
3.1Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning.
4.EFFECTIVENESS
OF INSTRUCTION
4.1Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
4.2Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving Individual Educational Plans and instructional objectives.
5.LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT
5.1Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.
5.2Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
5.3Coordinates services to students as prescribed in Individual Educational Plans.
5.4Establish a language based classroom to promote language development across all subjects and activities.
6.EFFECTIVE
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
6.1Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff, consultants, and administration using expected professional standards.
6.2Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings to promote social
inclusion of students to the greatest extent possible.
6.3 Maintain open and effective communication with para educators assigned to
the program.
7.CONTRIBUTIONS
TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
7.1Be available for student and/or parent conferences.
8.CONTRIBUTIONS
TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION
8.1Work collaboratively to identify areas for school improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
9.ENFORCEMENT
AND COMPLIANCE WITH SCHOOL REGULATIONS
9.1Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the school system.
EVALUATION
Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.
