Job Description
Hatfield Elementary School is a small rural school near large towns and cities. This offers our employees a variety of professional opportunities despite our size. HES has enrolled 200-220 kids PK-6 in recent years with a low staff-to-student ratio. We currently support our more complex learners with a full complement of interdisciplinary staff, including a full-time speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, and counselor. We contract or have part-time employment with our physical therapist, visually impaired, teacher for the deaf/hearing, Autism specialist, school psychologist, and board-certified behavior analyst. All staff work closely with our reading and math interventionists and EL teacher. Additionally, Hatfield Public Schools partners with River Valley Counseling to provide private services onsite in our buildings.
Our core curriculum includes iReady, Heggerty, Fundations, Worldly Wise, Making Meaning, LexiaCore5, and SRSD. Our key specialized curriculum includes UFLI, Language for Learning, Framing Your Thoughts, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and LiPs.
We seek a certified special education teacher familiar with teaching reading, writing, and math in small groups at the elementary level with fourth–, fifth–, and sixth-grade students. The teacher should also have experience co-teaching and consulting with general education teachers. Consultation includes clarifying teachers’ in-class accommodations and supporting modifications to classroom content as needed. Teachers should also have experience in achievement testing and report writing. Special education teachers guide and work closely with educational support professionals(ESP)(previously referred to as paraprofessionals).
Key duties include but are not limited to: teaching, planning, observing, progress monitoring, and evaluating students. Special education teachers in Hatfield serve as case managers and should be able to chair consultations or annual review meetings. Currently, the director is available to and does chair almost all meetings and will continue to chair initial and triennial meetings. Caseloads for academic based special education teachers at HES typically range from 15-20, this can change depending on needs. Student services may be shared between providers based on need and schedule.
HES currently is structured with:
a complex/severe special education teacher, an inclusion specialist special education teacher (serving twice exceptional/SEL needs), one preschool teacher, and two academic focused special education teachers. This position is for one of the academic focused teachers.
The Hatfield Public Schools do not discriminate in employment or in the delivery of educational services on the basis of age, sex, gender, gender identity, race, housing status, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, veteran status or homelessness in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
