Job Description
Position Title:
1.0 FTE Middle School Special Education Teacher (TLP)
FLSA:
Exempt
Reports to: Building Principal and the Director of Special Education
Terms of Employment:
184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.
August 25, 2025 start date. Unit A 25-26 Salary Range
Responsibilities:
Delivers direct instruction to students regarding executive functioning and social emotional learning and provides opportunities to practice these skills, in accordance with student IEPs
Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and supporting students with social emotional, behavior and learning needs
Collaborates with Therapeutic Learning Program team members regularly to support students’ needs, problem solve and monitor student growth in regards to social emotional, behavior and academic challenges as well as develop effective behavioral approaches individualized for each student
Collaborates with the general educators to support students in the least restrictive educational settings
Supports paraprofessionals in implementing academic, behavior and social emotional accommodations and modifications
Informs and aids in the creation and implementation of student support and behavior plans in conjunction with the Behavior Specialist
Creates individualized learning opportunities to support student needs in order for students to access the general education curriculum
Evaluates and maintains data on students IEP objectives, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
Participates in district-provided safety and de-escalation training. Utilize skills and strategies as needed and in accordance with behavior management plans
Oversees implementation of the IEP for students on caseload
Communicates with parents/guardians to share student progress and goals
Use data to contribute to the development of the IEP for students on caseload and conduct necessary and assigned assessments to provide data for IEP development
Completes academic testing for students eligible for initial or reevaluation assessments
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Masters Degree in Special Education preferred.
DESE certification in moderate disabilities required at the appropriate grade level required; DESE certification in severe disabilities and previous experience will also be considered if moderate license is pursued within the first year of employment
Must have experience working with students with social emotional and/or behavioral disabilities; must have experience managing student behavior including developing behavior plans, collecting data and other tasks associated with this requirement
Must have excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy
