$49.2K – $85.3K a year 16 hours ago Qualifications Classroom management Writing skills Special education Mid-level Master’s degree Classroom experience Full Job Description The purpose of this position is to have an individual who can provide specialized instruction to students with special education handicapping conditions. The LIFE program services young adults, aged 18-22, with significant intellectual impairment. Participants in the LIFE program are students who are unable to work more than 20 hours a week without support, and who have not met the criteria to receive a diploma and are on a certificate of completion path, OR, due to their disability level, elect to put their diploma on hold to continue receiving special education services until they age out. The LIFE program provides a mix of in school special education services around functional academics, life skills, social skills and vocational skills and community experiences. The teacher hired for this position will be 1 of 2 teachers who, along with 3 paraprofessionals, support these students.

Education, Training and Experience:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Severe Special Needs licensure from the MA DESE Demonstrated subject matter competence, highly qualified, in the area of licensure.
Knowledge Required:
Currency in the curriculum including knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction. Effective classroom management. Effective instruction in a standards-based classroom. Promotion of high standards and expectations for student proficiency. Promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity. Effective integration of technology across the curriculum. Fulfillment of professional responsibilities.
Abilities Required:
Ability to deliver effective instruction. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet student needs. Ability to administer required student testing and assessments. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
Skills Required:
Effective classroom management skills. Excellent listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Effective interpersonal skills. Skills in the specific subject matter of instruction.
