Special Education Teacher – Moderate Disabilities
REPORTS TO
Building Principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
The Special Education Teacher is responsible to work directly with students with moderate disabilities by providing specialized instruction and interventions to support students within the general education classroom setting in a co-teaching model as well as within small groups or with individuals based on the student’s needs. The Special Education teacher will demonstrate the ability to modify the general education curriculum to address a wide range of skills and abilities. Given the needs of the students, a strong understanding of language interventions is needed as well as high expectations for all students within the program to ensure student growth and progress towards greater independence and mastery. Strong collaboration and communication is required when working with administration, team members, related service providers and parents. Flexibility, attention to detail and effective understanding of the impact of language development on student performance is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction and support within the general education setting in a co-teaching and/or support model at the high school level.
Ability to set high instructional and behavioral expectations for students which increase and support greater student independence and functioning.
Develop appropriate IEPs using understanding of IDEA requirements, student needs and performance, and assessment data.
Complete appropriate assessments and evaluations
Collect and evaluate data using direct and indirect methods.
Assess and monitor the generalization of intervention and supports across settings and staff members.
Assist in the development of intervention plans as appropriate.
Prepare notes and reports using objective data and observations, strategies and data
Collaborate closely with team members and appropriate related service staff
Communicate clearly orally and in writing with administration, providers, and parents
Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
REQUIREMENTS
Completion of CPI or related training
Candidates must be MA certified as a Special Education Teacher with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
