SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER/LEARNING SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Special Education Preferred
Two or more years successful teaching experience in Special Education
Massachusetts Certification in Special Education (Moderate/Severe)
REPORTS TO
Special Education Coordinator & Building Principal
JOB GOAL
Responsible for planning instruction and/or curricula adaptations for included special needs students which allow students to meet high standards and success in typical settings.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct instruction to students, both within the regular education classroom and outside the regular education classroom. This includes planning and teaching along with the regular classroom teacher in an inclusive regular education setting.
Plan and modify regular curriculum. Consult with regular education staff. Monitor student progress in regular education program. Develop IEP, determine goals and objectives. Prepare progress reports. Organize and chair team meetings and other meetings. Administer testing for evaluations and end of term/end of year reporting. Maintain contact with parents. Attend building learning team meetings. Direct the work of teaching assistants. Perform other tasks as assigned by Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.

Special Education Coordinator and Building Principal Arlington has a well established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year.
Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association. The Salary Schedule is on our website. Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.
