Job Description
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree and DESE certification in Teaching Moderate Disabilties Prek-8 or Severe Disabilities all levels required.
Master’s degree and experience working with students with disabilities and Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.
Scope of duties:
Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP.
Serve as the primary contact for the parent.
Develop instruction programs aligned to students IEP objectives.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the individual needs and learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Has a thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and uses frameworks effectively in the development of curriculum instruction.
Provide the necessary accommodations and modifications for students to access curricula. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through data collection, formal and informal testing. Use results to adjust individual learning plans. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP and or Health Care Plan.
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Implement behavior support plans and collaborate with BCBA Team Leader to aid students’ development of adaptive skills.
Consult with district related service providers and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students and integrate recommendations accordingly.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators and related service providers.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
Complete and maintain, required documentation including data collection, progress reports, evaluations, incident reports and other documents required.
Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff: assigns activities, provide guidance and instructional oversight.
Endeavor at all times to contribute to and support school and collaborative goals.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities. Candidates must be able to work with students with significantly challenging behavior and must be able to move swiftly from floor to stand and vice versa and occasionally be able to lift the equivalent of 40- 50 lbs. SEEM will provide training for de-escalation and physical intervention.
Employment is contingent upon completion of background check, SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.
