Job Description
Strides Classroom Elementary Special Education Teacher•2025/2026

Job Goal:

The Strides teacher coordinates and provides programming for children with intellectual and related disabilities, including instruction in academic, social language, motor, self-regulation, leisure, and life skills. Duties and Responsibilities
Provide individualized instruction in an intensive learning environment with frequent practice in a variety of settings in a consistent manner using 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 ratio.
Teach critical skills across settings to assist students to generalize academic, social, communication/language (including support and use of AAC devices), health, safety and adaptive life skills in relevant contexts. This includes, but is not limited to, academic, social/emotional, behavioral and activities of daily living (including toileting and diapering when necessary)
Collect and apply data to create specially designed plans and guide instruction
Coordinate and facilitate communication with the general educator as necessary. Modify work for the students in the general education setting.
Design and implement programs using pull-out/inclusion for students eligible to receive Special Education services.
Provide instruction in a variety of formats and incorporate other evidence-based curricula that best meets the individual student’s learning style informed by regular data collection.
Develop individual schedules for students across grade levels when needed.
Coordinate and collaborate with classroom support staff while communicating with administrators as needed.
Oversee instructional assistants assigned to your Program Create their schedules to support students
Train instructional assistants on student plans and programs
Collaborate with instructional assistants to develop activities and lessons around targeted skills
Meet weekly with support staff to review student data and programs, curriculum, and student behavioral issues. Participate in district-provided safety and de-escalation training. Utilize skills and strategies as needed and in accordance with behavior management plans.
Oversee implementation of the IEP for students on caseload.
Conduct formal assessments in accordance with reevaluation cycles, or when deemed necessary. Collect data on student goals and objectives. Use data to contribute to the development of the IEP for students on caseload and conduct necessary and assigned assessments to provide data for IEP development.
Performs other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in special education preferred.
DESE certification in severe special needs required. Good organizational and communication skills, experience in delivering 1:1 and small group instruction.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with children diagnosed with intellectual disabilities as well as skills and experience working in an intensive instructional classroom serving students with intellectual disabilities required.
