SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the management and oversight of the building-based student special education eligibility process. The Special Educator provides an appropriate educational program for high school students with special needs. This teacher may act as a case manager for a group of students, co-teach in a regular education department, teach a substantially separate subject area class, and support student acquisition of skills related to IEP goals. The teacher is also expected to maintain open communication with parents, regular education teachers, counselors, and housemasters, as well as contribute to the regular functioning and development of the Special Education Department, and fulfill other responsibilities as a member of the broader school community.

Minimum Masters degree MA Special Education educator license Minimum of 5-years’ experience in special education Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues Extensive understanding of special education regulations and laws Excellent oral and written communication skills Computer experience Ability to collaborate with numerous stakeholders Essential Job D uties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To): Facilitate Individual Education Programs (IEP) meetings Manage procedure/timeline compliance Support and provide information to families Schedule meetings Provide building-based staff professional development Plan weekly building based special education team meeting Collaborate with sending and receiving IEP team for transition pre-K/K and 5 th /6th Attend Director’s meetings Attend monthly special education staff meeting Coordinate IEP writing with providers, Read and Sign IEPs Conduct student evaluations as needed Provide guidance in regulation, compliance and services to staff Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students Responsible for implementing “other job-related duties” as needed
