Warren Community Elementary School Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and collaborative Special Education Teacher to lead a Functional Life Skills classroom for students in grades 46 with cognitive and academic challenges. Students have low processing speed and working memory, very low academic skills, and average social skills. The teacher will deliver instruction in functional academics and independence to support success at school, home, and in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education plans that focus on functional academics and practical life skills.
Apply task analysis, scaffolded instruction, and other proven methods to support cognitive and memory challenges.
Provide structured opportunities for peer communication and social engagement.
Support individualized instruction in modified standards-based curriculum in reading, writing, and math, and social development in collaboration with related service providers.
Hold certification in multi-sensory reading programs preferred.
Skilled in teaching writing using mapping, visuals, structures, and technology Instruct on real-world skills and instruction Knowledgeable of functional math curriculumEngage in hands-on instructionPromote inclusionary opportunities Work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent implementation.
Collect data, assess student growth, and maintain ongoing communication with families.
Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters in Special Education or related fieldValid certification in Moderate/Severe DisabilitiesExperience with elementary students with intellectual developmental disabilities preferredSkilled in differentiated instruction and supporting students with low cognitive and working memory skillsStrong classroom management and the ability to establish structured routinesCapable of leading paraprofessionals and coordinating with service providers
