Berlin-Boylston is a great place to work! We have an opening for a full-time special education teacher at Berlin Memorial School, an elementary school.

Special Education Teacher, Moderate

QUALIFICATIONS

1.Massachusetts Certification in Special needs, Moderate
2.Training and experience with students with disabilities, Diagnostic Testing, and behavior modification preferred

POSITION GOAL

To provide inclusion and pull out based special education support for students.

REPORTS TO

Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
1.Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
2.Coordinates the timely delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP. Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis on individualized instruction using appropriate resources.
3.Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities. Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
4.Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
5.Actively participates in meetings and serves as liaison to the parent, general education teachers, and other service providers, including community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, counselors, etc.).
6.Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations, including scoring and providing a written evaluation report.
7.Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans in collaboration with parents and other staff.
8.Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals as needed.
9. Complies with District policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
10. Completes all district and state reporting requirements. Maintains scholastic, attendance, and other required records.
11.Continues individual professional growth.
12.Perform other school related duties as directed by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the Building Principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10 months, salary and work year as specified in the current teachers’ contract.

EVALUATION

Evaluation of this position will take place annually in accordance with the School Committee policy on evaluation of a teacher.
