POSITION SUMMARY
Spencer East Brookfield Regional School District wants to add a dynamic, qualified special education teacher to our Special Education Team. We invite you to join our supported special education team as we prepare our students for life, learning, and citizenship.
As a certified special education teacher, you will work with students either in Middle or High school in the Spencer East Brookfield School District to personalize learning, strengthen critical thinking, and foster creativity. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure every student receives the necessary skills to prepare for life, learning, and citizenship beyond high school.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Special Education Teacher (Moderate Special Needs) reports to the School Building Administrators, in consultation with the Director of Student Services.

Skills
- Orton-Gillingham or Willson Trained (preferred)
- Passion and enthusiasm for teaching
- Inclusion and co-teaching experience
- Effective classroom management
- Engaging instructional methods
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills
- Willingness to be collaborative and flexible, committed to self-improvement, and holding self to the highest of expectations
- Passion and enthusiasm for subject matter, along with content mastery
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Google applications, email, web applications, and industry-specific technology
- Proficient in the language of instruction.
- Reading/Mathematics Instruction
Job Responsibilities:
- Administer appropriate district curriculum that is aligned with the MA State Standards.
- Manage a caseload of students (typically ranging from 12-18), ideally throughout their time in the assigned school.
- Ensure that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in various settings aligned to the goals and objectives of the students’ IEPs
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities within regulatory timelines.
- Ensures that the appropriate accommodations and modifications are being implemented to meet the special needs of their students
- Complete quarterly progress reports per MA Regulations and ensure that the goals and objectives of their students’ IEPs are implemented.
- Collect, administer, and report progress monitoring data for all student goals.
- Integrate technology into the instructional program
- Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment;
- Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning condition in the instructional environment
- Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
- Utilize positive behavioral supports as appropriate
- Provide a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times.
- Implement scientifically-based instruction to support the unique academic, social, and behavioral needs of students as appropriate.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local mandates in special education
- Work professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and the community.
- Work and teach collaboratively with the general education teachers and para-professionals utilizing the co-teaching model, sharing planning and instructional responsibility for all students.
- Collaborate and co-teach with general education teachers to provide access to the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment.
- Participates in district and school-based professional development activities.
- Participate in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned.
