ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

This position is accountable for assuming the responsibility for delivering high quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, student centered meaningful objectives, and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

(to be included along with other responsibilities)
1. Responsible for serving as a member of the Special Education Team in writing educational plans and progress reports on SAGE-IEP, and completing assessments within the required timelines.
2. Responsible for following the student IEP and ensuring compliance with state and federal SPED regulations including the delivery of high quality services, the provision of accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment and the implementation of BIPs.
3. Responsible for remaining up to date on best practices regarding curriculum content that is meaningful and beneficial to increase skills to prepare individuals for maximum independence.
4. Responsible for using assessment to guide effective planning of curriculum, differentiated instruction, and the development of IEP goals.
5. Responsible for providing direct instruction in effective communication, functional academics, activities of daily living, social skills training, self help skills, preparation for community experiences, and vocational opportunities as appropriate to each individual to help prepare them to transition from school to post school activities.
6. Responsible for modifying and adapting materials, instructional lessons, etc. to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities as identified in the IEP’s.
7. Develop objectives, collect data, and construct MCAS alternate assessments for students in grade 3 through grade 10.
8. Responsible for providing direction, support, assistance, and consultation to instructional assistants in the handling of day to day instruction and related issues.
9. Responsible for working in conjunction and communicating with itinerant staff (OT, PT, Speech, and Assistive Technologists) to provide a continuation of skill development outside of direct teaching by itinerant staff.
10.Responsible for providing inclusive opportunities for all students within the school community appropriate to each individual student.
11.Responsible for promoting students independence in behaving in a safe, respectful, and age appropriate manner.
12.Responsible for effective management of classroom environment as well as the implementation of a classroom-wide positive behavior and intervention support system.
13.Responsible for implementing high quality teaching and learning using appropriate differentiated instructional materials/techniques.
14.Responsible for using innovative approaches, and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
15.Responsible for the promotion of high standards and expectations for student achievement.
16. Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
17. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. MA DESE licensure in Moderate Disabilities•All Levels
2. Bachelor of Arts in Special Education
3. CPI/CPR training
4. SEI Endorsement

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Advance educational preparation in the discipline.
2. Teaching experience in the discipline.
3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
4. Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language.
5. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition

SALARY:

Appropriate step on Teachers’ salary schedule.
