Extended Day Teacher Maine Mountain Children’s House 36 Salem Road, Kingfield, ME 04947 Maine Mountain Children’s House (MMCH) is seeking an Extended Day Teacher to join our small, close-knit team located in Kingfield, Maine! MMCH is a non-profit Montessori school offering programming for children ages 18 months

  • 6 years old.

We seek an individual who has experience working with young children, and who is also interested in the Montessori teaching philosophy. This person should love spending time outdoors through all seasons, have the energy and stamina to spend their day with young students, and have the flexibility to adjust to whatever each day may bring. All applicants must have a deep respect for the capabilities of young children, be willing to work as a team with our amazing staff, and be committed to bettering themselves as an educator each day. The role of the extended day teacher is to work in tandem with the other Primary teaching staff to meet the needs of the children in your care. Your main responsibility is helping children nap in the afternoons, which entails creating a peaceful, safe, and soothing nap environment for the children who rest there each afternoon. On Friday mornings you will work alongside the Lead teacher as an assistant for the morning work period. The responsibilities of the Extended Day Teacher are as follows: To be responsible for the welfare, safety, and educational achievements of the students in your care. To arrive each day ready to meet the needs of the students in your care. This is achieved through the Teacher’s own self care when not at school. To demonstrate a rapport with, as well as respect and kindness for, the other employees within your classroom and Maine Mountain Children’s House employees as a whole. To demonstrate a rapport with, as well as respect and kindness for, the parents and families of the children within your classroom by cultivating the bridge between home and school environments. To demonstrate a report with, as well as respect and kindness for, the students in your care based on the principles of “positive discipline” and the classroom guidelines of Maine Mountain Children’s House. To work with the Lead Primary Teacher (Hereon referred to as “Lead”) on all tasks in regards to the health and safety of the Primary classroom, especially the nap room, and outside playspace. To model caring for one’s environment by keeping an orderly, well-stocked classroom. In a Montessori environment, the details are a key component of a prepared environment. To be responsible for the welfare and safety of the children in your care. To work as a team with other Primary teaching staff to inspire one another, problem solve, and plan for the collective wellbeing of the Primary classroom. To work collectively with all Primary staff to ensure the Primary classroom is clean, orderly, and well stocked at all times. To create a peaceful, safe, healthy, and orderly napping space for the children who nap in the afternoons. To track each child’s sleeping habits by using a daily nap log to use for reference. To communicate with fellow Primary teachers regarding individual social, emotional, academic, and physical growth of the children in your care in order to plan and present lessons during the morning work period. To work with Lead and Ex. Day staff to prepare for and administer Parent/Teacher conferences in both the spring and the fall.

    Compensation:

    $16

    • $17 per hour + state sponsored monthly bonuses of $240
    • $540 based on training and experience, PTO, IRA program with employer match, and paid professional development.
