ISN Elementary Teacher (Literacy/Numeracy Specialist) – Line School Regional School Unit 57 86 West Rd, Waterboro, ME 04087 Regional School Unit 57

Title:
Literacy/Numeracy SpecialistQualifications:

Masters degree in Literacy preferredMaintains or is eligible for MDOE certificationAt least 5 years successful teaching experience; experience in literacy/numeracy and experience collaborating with adults to ensure student success preferredThorough knowledge of literacy development for the elementary student; excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact positively and collaboratively with a variety of people, including children and adults; ability to keep paperwork organized; and keep information confidentialSuccessful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference checkReports to: Building Principal/Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and AssessmentCoordinates with:

Literacy Coach, Classroom Teachers, Resource Teachers, Support StaffJob Goal:

1. To directly serve learners in academic intervention settings2. To directly support educators in the classroom setting3. To to advise District on compliance as it relates to academic intervention services

Performance Responsibilities:

Works with and engages individual students or small groups of students to serve as a resource in academic intervention services helping students achieve academically in the classroomSuch duties include but are not limited to: Provides instructional leadership for the Literacy/Numeracy programDesigns and/or initiates effective literacy programs for the Literacy/Numeracy caseload, including delivery of educational services to students and overseeing the delivery of educational services by educational techniciansResponsible for evaluating and progress monitoring students, sharing RTI/L meetings, and collaborating with classroom teachers, educational technicians, and other educational providers to create successful student literacy interventionsUses both formative and summative assessments to help implement literacy strategies with students to support their increased academic achievementResponsible for following guidelines to determine student program eligibility in their buildings, including data collection, creating grade level lists, and reviewing student data with the Director, building administrator, other specialists, and educational techniciansWorks with Literacy/Numeracy Coaches to create schedules in their building; including student intervention time, educational technician planning time and lunch breaks, and use of spaceParticipates in monthly staff meetings, follows through on tasks discussed, and readily shares information with other staff membersWorks with the Director and other specialists to research assessment tools that help identify our population of students, and/or gain further diagnostic information about studentsIs educated on the requirements of any district adopted literacy/numeracy programMonitors school-by-school supplies and instructional materials to ensure students needs are metCompletes all required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Writes student progress reports, and reviews those done by educational technicians, and places them in student files in an accurate and timely mannerSupports family engagement activities; organizes and helps facilitate events, distributes district wide Title I parent-student communications, i.e. newsletter, event notices, and other communicationsWrites and distributes school based parent-student notices; and distributes district wide parent-student communications written by the Director, i.e. newsletters, event notices, and other communicationsParticipates in new employee orientation and trainings for ed. techs assigned to his/her building, and assists new literacy specialists as requestedMaintains good rapport with colleagues and other staffKeeps informed and collaborates with the Director on regulatory mattersParticipates in ongoing professional development to stay current on literacy research and practicesMaintains confidentiality regarding records, conversations, test results, and classroom workPerforms all other related duties as assigned2. Always works in a manner that meets professional responsibilities regarding regular and special education requirements, including attending meetings and related consultations as directed, maintaining knowledge of students goals, progress, and accommodations attending and documenting professional development as directed, maintaining confidentiality (FERPA) of student information, and following school board policies and procedures at all times.3. Completes other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:

Salary, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Boards policy on evaluation.
