Animal Care Specialist Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary 9617 Farm Road 2190, Washburn, MO 65772
Purpose of Position:
Directly lead and provide oversight for animal medical care, ensuring humane and compassionate handling, housing, enrichment and treatment of sheltered animals. Working under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Animal Care Specialist will be responsible for: 1. Collaborates toward further development of the Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary animal care program. 2. Responsible for the day-to-day quality of care of all animals in the shelter. 3. Visually inspect the shelter animals daily checking for signs of illness, injury or infections. 4. Ensure the health, safety, and care of all animals, and people who are in contact with them. 5. Responsible for providing animal exams, medical care, vaccinations, treatments and first aid of animals in care and updating Shelter Luv with information. Responsible for medical follow up as needed. 6. Responsible for scheduling animals for veterinary appointments as needed. 7. Maintains medical protocol procedures and paperwork. 8. Keep proper inventory levels of vaccines, treatments, microchips and other medical related supplies. Inform the Director when reordering is necessary. 9. Provide feedback to staff and/or volunteers to promote safe and sanitary conditions in the shelter. 10. Promote efficiency for animal care to encourage healthier, happier animals, making them more adoptable and successful in their forever homes. 11. Train and oversee staff in medical procedures for daily medications, vaccinations and general animal care. 12. Effectively communicate and elevate challenges to the Executive Director. 13. Provide good leadership that encourages respectful relationships. 14. Ensure all organization records and compliance are properly maintained. 15. Meet and greet the public in a professional manner and respond to answers and requests, always projecting a positive attitude and image at the shelter. 16. Acting in a mature, professional manner and treating people and animals with respect by handling all situations with compassion regardless of the circumstances. 17. Assist with any shelter emergencies, including after business hours as needed. 18. Approach challenging situations with a positive perspective, helpful attitude and flexible strategies, seeking the best possible experiences and outcomes for pets and patrons.
Requirements:
Certified Vet Tech preferred. Experience in animal medical care considered. Valid driver’s license with no chargeable violations.
