Teacher Advisory Board Application, 2025-2026 School Year About the role: The Teacher Advisory Board (TAB) advises and supports Nelson-Atkins School Programs & Partnerships (SPP) staff to ensure K-12 educators and students are well-served by the department’s offerings. TAB members provide feedback and collaborate with museum staff to develop programs and resources for school groups and teachers that meet educator needs and reflect the department’s values of collaboration, creativity, equity, inclusion & accessibility, and empathy. TAB members also promote Nelson-Atkins offerings within their school communities and keep SPP staff members up-to-date on priorities within their schools and districts.

This may include:

Providing feedback on tours, workshops, other school programs, teacher professional development, etc., especially as pertains to curricular relevance. Providing suggestions and feedback on resources for teachers and students in development. Contributing to the creation of teacher resources and events related to the museum’s collection and special exhibitions. Connecting SPP staff with area schools, and informing staff of developments in K-12 educational spaces, including: o Pedagogical trends such as arts integration, virtual learning tools, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, etc. o Learning standards and curriculum frameworks o School

  • and district-wide initiatives o State-wide education policies and their effects Identifying areas of interest to K-12 teachers and their students; brainstorming ways for the museum to address those needs through programming.

Promoting information about Nelson-Atkins programs and sharing the museum’s resources with others in your immediate school and district, and through professional networks. Representing the Teacher Advisory Board and sharing first-hand classroom experience with other constituents in the museum, such as docents, the Trustees’ Education Committee, etc.

TAB Member Responsibilities:

Serve a one-year term for the 2025-2026 school year and attend five meetings, typically held onsite at the museum. Dinner will be provided at each in-person meeting. Some meetings may be held virtually.

Meeting dates are:

o Wednesday, October 22, 4:30

  • 6:30 pm o Wednesday, November 19, 4:30
  • 6:30 pm o Wednesday, January 21, 4:30
  • 6:30 pm o Wednesday, February 18, 4:30
  • 6:30 pm o Wednesday, April 15, 4:30
  • 6:30 pm Contribute an additional estimated 1 hour of feedback each month in the form of email communication, responses to surveys, and/or optional small-group meetings.

Regularly participate in the museum’s programming. Each TAB member is encouraged to bring a school group to the museum for a school tour or workshop during the 2025-2026 school year. Financial assistance is available to help offset field trip expenses.

TAB Member Benefits:

$300 stipend disbursed in May 2026 upon completion of the responsibilities outlined above. Participation in a learning community of peer educators who are committed to engagement with the arts. Behind-the-scenes access to museum exhibitions, museum staff, and opportunities to learn more about the Nelson-Atkins’ collection. Current K-12 educators (of any subject area) who wish to join the board are asked to submit an online application by EOD Sunday, August 24, 2025. Selected applicants will be contacted in September and invited to a group interview with other prospective TAB members and SPP staff. Ensuring a representative board that reflects the diversity of schools, districts, subject areas, stages of teaching career, grade levels, and classroom roles is the primary factor in selecting board members.
