Hixson Middle School Primary Objective:
Teach Hixson Middle School’s Makerspace and Robotics elective courses in a creative and engaging way that consistently involves hands-on learning experiences. When teaching the Makerspace elective course, the teacher will guide students in exploring a wide range of tools and materials to foster creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. This role often involves curriculum development, managing the makerspace space and resources, and collaborating with other educators to integrate maker activities into the broader curriculum. When teaching the Robotics elective course, the teacher will introduce the basic concepts of robotics, focusing on the construction and programming of autonomous mobile robots. The teacher will help students learn coding and computational thinking with

Prime (3.0), which provides a structured sequence of programming activities in real-world project-based contexts.
Essential Functions:
Creates an equitable learning environment for all students that fosters empathy and understanding Teach subject area content according to curriculum guidelines specified by MO DESE and WGSD curriculum Review the curriculum and its development to ensure it meets the needs of students Collaborate with other faculty in delivery of proper instructional approaches; working to serve the various learning styles and needs Implement curriculum and instruction in a way that is consistent with WGSD’s mission statement Show empathy for and understanding of all students Share ideas and observations with students, parents and colleagues Develop a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity with parents and students Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise involving students and/or parents Approach all matters with a restorative and collaborative perspective Assess student performance often and objectively Continue intellectual and professional development Follow guidance and policies established by the Board of Education Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree Missouri Middle School Teacher Certification required; Mathematics 5-9 and/or General Science 5-9 preferred Knowledge of Carnegie Mellon Robotics curriculum strongly preferred
