General Summary:

Every member of the Asheville PEAK Academy team and family plays a critical role in ensuring our scholars have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential, but there is no one person more critical to the success of a scholar than the classroom teacher. Educators at Asheville PEAK Academy will be passionate advocates for their scholars and their families, working to ensure they meet their scholars where they are, provide dynamic, purposeful instruction, and the support that their scholars need to thrive. Each teacher will embody the school mission and values as they work closely with the School Director and Director of Curriculum and Instruction to ensure data is used to drive instruction and that the needs of each scholar is being met. Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Delivery & Assessment, Investing in Scholars Develop thoughtful, relevant, and data-driven lesson plans that differentiate for scholars’ learning styles and that promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor. Implement lessons through dynamic instruction that is engaging, motivating, and invests scholars in their learning. Work cooperatively with staff to modify curricula and develop individualized learning plans as needed for scholars being served through special programs. Review and analyze multiple sources of data incorporating both formal and informal methods to measure and assess student growth aligned to instructional goals and to adjust instructional strategies and content delivery as needed. Culture Building & Family Communication Interact in respectful ways with students at all times, maintaining a physically and emotionally safe, supportive learning environment that is characterized by efficient and effective routines, clear and high expectations for all student behavior, and organization that maximizes student learning. Utilize positive behavioral management strategies that will invest students in their learning goals and motivate them to be actively engaged in their learning. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and the behavioral progress of students through daily/weekly folders, attending open houses and parent-teacher conferences, and regular personal phone calls or emails as needed. Professional Growth Hold oneself to the highest standard for individual development, pursue leadership opportunities, collaborate with other educational professionals, communicate regularly with stakeholders, maintain professional relationships, comply with all APA policies, and conduct yourself ethically and with integrity. Attend and actively engage in a collaborative beginning of year Professional Development for two weeks, faculty meetings, and grade-level planning meetings. Accept and seek consistent feedback and professional learning opportunities throughout the year to improve instruction and drive student achievement. Be a teacher leader and deliver professional development and guidance to other teachers in areas of strength. Perform any other duties as assigned by the School Director. Skills and Characteristics A demonstrated track record of helping their scholars achieve academic success, primarily with scholars in educationally underserved communities. A positive-minded nurturer that recognizes the power and potential within all scholars. Has a high level of respect for disadvantaged families. Assumes responsibility for failures and success in the classroom. Has a strong foundation in the skills necessary to lead students to high academic outcomes – thoughtful planning, dynamic instruction, and consistent classroom management. Life-long learner that strives to improve their craft through continuous learning and that is hungry for feedback. A self-starter who will always do what is best for students and the team. Has a driven, persistent, and goal-oriented mindset. Highly organized and detail oriented. A proactive and effective communicator who reaches out to scholars, families, and teammates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

We would love to hear from you if your toolbox includes the following: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university Valid NC Elementary Teaching License or similar field. (Highly preferred, but not required). Two (2) years of successful teaching experience. (Highly preferred, but not required). Benefits Salary – starting at $48,000 Health, dental and vision insurance option, retirement plan option, school laptop and printer Start Date June 2024 (exact date dependent upon hiring date). Teachers will receive 15 days of professional development prior to the start of school and will receive stipends to compensate their participation.
