Behavior Support Technician (25-26) Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools – 3.6 Charlotte, NC Job Details Full-time From $20.80 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications CPI Certification 3 years High school diploma or GED Conflict management Communication skills Entry level Full Job Description General Definition of Work The behavior support technician (BST), under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion promoting the safety, well-being, and educational access of students by supporting school staff during crisis situations related to student behavior and mental health issues. Position will conduct functional behavior assessments, collaborate with staff to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, and implement crisis prevention and intervention strategies as needed for students with disabilities. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the assigned supervisor. Salary/Status Hourly NC 09/Full-time, 10 months Reports To Principal or Executive Director of Exceptional Children Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Enforce administration policies and rules governing students; ensure students understand the student code of conduct Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips Provide one-on-one support to students in crisis situations using Crisis Prevention and Intervention CPI strategies as needed for students with disabilities Use CPI strategies to assist students in modifying behaviors with an emphasis on appropriate consequences and encouraging personal responsibility Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and collaborate with staff when developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Monitor and provide feedback to staff on implementation of BIPs Collaborate with staff during individual student crisis situations Collect, analyze, and assess data related to student behavior Participate in the daily bus, car and van transportation duties involving student arrival and departure to and from schools Support initiatives to foster a positive school climate Participate in professional development and other meetings Perform related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children and working with students in a mental health/behavior crisis Knowledge of conducting FBA, using CPI strategies, and developing BIPs Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required CPI training required Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with student behavior required Equivalent combination of education and experience # of Jobs 1.00
