The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state’s public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Education Consultant
II/ IDEA
Behavior Consultant for our Office of Exceptional Children/ Supporting Teaching and Related Services/STARS section. The Office of Exceptional Children/Supporting Teaching and Related Services section is responsible for leadership and direction to all educational entities concerned with academic support and instructional planning for students with disabilities, specifically students identified with behavioral needs, including challenging behavior and neurodivergent learners.
This position is also responsible for providing professional learning, technical assistance, data-driven analysis and coaching to support all Public School Units (PSUs) of North Carolina in the development and implementation of individualized education programs with appropriate behavioral goals, supplemental aids and services, and/or behavioral intervention plans to improve outcomes for students with disabilities (i.e., reduce suspensions, increase proficiency, reduce drop-out rates, etc.).
This position is primarily responsible for supporting the State Board of Education (SBE) Public Service Units statewide but may specifically support the North Central and Piedmont Triad areas and other SBE districts as needed or required. Additionally, this field-based position is subject to up to 50% travel or more, depending on the need.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Demonstrated experience consulting and providing guidance to teachers, administrators, and/or parents about best practices for educating students with behavioral concerns and/or effective programming in a public-school setting.
Demonstrated experience delivering professional development sessions for educators, school staff, and/or parents on how to support students with disabilities and/or behavioral concerns, classroom management, and/or data collection and/or evidence-based practices. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
