Job Description
The Bethlehem School District is seeking applicants for an anticipated position for Special Education Teacher for 25-26 SY. This position is to To ensure that all students with educational disabilities are identified, receive appropriate instruction, and make progress towards meeting the goals in their individualized education programs (IEP). The classroom teacher is responsible for the education of each pupil in his/her charge and for working with students, parents, other teachers, administrators, and staff toward achieving the goals set forth in the Bethlehem Elementary School’s Mission Statement.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:
1.Provides direct services to students with disabilities
2.Schedules IEP, placement meetings, and revaluation meetings for students with disabilities on their caseload.
3.Develops IEPs for all students with disabilities assigned to their caseload
4.Chairs IEP meetings for students on their caseload
5.Collaborates and/or consults with classroom teachers to ensure effective adaptations and accommodations are put in place regarding specific assignments and modalities of presentation to enable student success.
6.Leads in the transitioning of students on their caseloads with disabilities from the pre-school to elementary school, elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school, and from high school to adult.
7.Ensures that all aspects of the IEP are delivered to individual students on their caseload
8.Ensures that the paperwork is complete, up-to-date, accurate, and in compliance with state and federal regulations for all students with disabilities in the school. (Referral data, test reports, parent releases, IEP and NHSEIS)
9.Ensures compliance with IDEA procedures and timelines mandated by state regulations.
10.Maintains confidentiality when it comes to student information
11.Follows district curriculum goals and objectives to write comprehensive lesson plans designed to meet the learning needs of each student in your classroom.
12.Identifies possible causes of student behavior and addresses the behavior constructively following school board policy and the school procedures.
13.Assess student for the purpose of providing feedback to the teacher, students, parents, and administration, regarding the student’s growth, meeting expectations, and goals.
14.Utilizes data from standardized tests and a variety of formative and summative assessment to drive instruction.
15.Serves as a resource person for staff and parents.
16.Works with the Special Education coordinator for screening and evaluation procedures to determine if a student has an educational disability.
17.As part of the special education team, leads in determining eligibility, development of IEPs, and placement decisions for students with disabilities
18.Leads in designing and implementing IEP’s with classroom teachers, parents, and administrators.
19.Monitors student progress in cooperation with classroom teachers and provides periodic progress reports to parents as required by state and federal law.
20. Ensures that all steps in the special education process are completed in a timely manner as required by state and federal laws.
21.Participates in required meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, faculty meetings) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information
22.Maintains state certification through building principal approved professional development activities.
23.Follows District policies, procedures, goals, and approved curriculum for content areas
24.Follows all federal, state, and school district policies, laws, and procedures that pertain to public education.
