Extended School Year Paraeducator
Position Purpose
The role and assignments of a paraeducator are not defined by a particular student, setting or program, but rather by students’ needs as determined by the multi-disciplinary team. While every attempt will be made to keep the assignments over the course of the school year, it may be necessary to change a paraeducator’s original job assignment to another to meet the varying needs of the students in the district. The Extended School Year Program begins on July 8, 2025 and ends on August 7, 2025. The Program’s schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and the work schedule will be 4 hours per day in the morning
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Carry out and develop instructional plans. Many responsiblilites overlap from one area to another
At any given time of day, a teacher may be asked to fulfill a variety of duties. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and assists teachers in modifying instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs to reach or exceed reading standards and goals.
Organizes and coordinates curriculum development activities, including preparation of curriculum guides, resource units and courses of study. Assures the integration of these areas with the other curricula in the District.
Provides for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development, cooperation with building administrators, teacher observations and program visits.
Supports the introduction and utilization of innovative teaching materials and techniques in line with best educational practices.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Additional Duties
Assumes other responsibilities as specified by the Director of Pupil Services and Instruction, and the Superintendent of Schools.
Travel Requirements
Travels to all school district buildings, city/state agencies and professional meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in school building environments.
Experience
Experience with students with disabilities and behavioral challenges
Able to maintain professional attitude with students, families and staff
Able to work will with children
Able to manage student behavior, given training and support
Able to maintain confidentiality following the Family Education Right and Privacy Act (FERPA)
