Teacher to provide innovative, trauma-informed instruction in an alternative education setting.
This role requires expertise in project-based learning, curriculum development, and
extended learning opportunities to engage students who thrive in non-traditional learning
environments. The ideal candidate will create a supportive and flexible classroom that fosters
academic growth, social-emotional development, and real-world skill-building.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement engaging, student-driven curriculum using project-based learning to make content relevant and accessible.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed approach to support students with diverse social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet the needs of students with Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Integrate extended learning opportunities, such as community-based learning, vocational experiences, and service projects, to enhance student engagement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, paraprofessionals, counselors, and families to support student success.
  • Implement positive behavior support strategies and restorative practices to address challenges proactively.
  • Assess student progress through authentic assessments, portfolios, and performance- based evaluations.
  • Advocate for students’ academic and social-emotional growth, connecting them with relevant resources and support services.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and communication in accordance with district policies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid New Hampshire teaching certification (or eligibility for certification) in the appropriate subject area.
  • Experience working in alternative education, special education, or trauma-informed settings.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, differentiated instruction, and project-based learning.
  • Understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and strategies for trauma-sensitive teaching.
  • Ability to integrate real-world applications and community partnerships into student learning experiences.
  • Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusive education practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification or training in trauma-informed practices, restorative justice, or behavior intervention.
  • Experience with vocational education, work-based learning, or experiential education.
  • Familiarity with alternative assessment methods and competency-based education.
