Our Brands Responsibilities:

The KEYS Academy Teacher demonstrates an understanding ofcurriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs ofstudents by providing relevant learning experiences and effectivelyengaging students in learning using a variety of instructionalstrategies. The KEYS Academy Teacher plans using the VirginiaStandards of Learning, the school’s curriculum, effectivestrategies, resources, and data to meet the needs of all studentsand systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses relevant data toplan instruction, measure student academic progress, and providefeedback to students and parents. The KEYS Academy Teacher usesresources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful,positive, safe, student

  • centered environment that is conducive tolearning and demonstrates knowledge and integration of the KEYSCurriculum and the Social Thinking Program into their classroomdaily.

The KEYS Academy Teacher maintains a commitment toprofessional ethics, and effective communication and takesresponsibility for and participates in professional growth thatresults in enhanced student learning and acceptable, measurable,and appropriate student academic progress. The KEYS Academy Teacherperforms all duties in a manner that supports a sense ofwell-being, availability for learning and safety, dignity andopportunity for all.

  • Prepares classroom for class activities
  • Clearly defines classroom environment to allow students tounderstand boundaries
  • Develops a classroom management plan andindividual behavior plans as needed
  • Develops lesson plans
  • Usesstudent learning data to guide planning
  • Identifies and selectsinstructional resources and methods that support and expand theon-line curriculum and support the Virginia SOLs
  • Plansinstruction by embedding communication and social skill development
  • Aligns IEP goals to instructional plans
  • Aligns instructionalplans to the SOLs and school curriculum
  • Develops plans based onevidence-based practices
  • Plans for student transition whileencouraging self-determination
  • Creates and ensures use of masterschedule by all staff in the classroom
  • Clearly communicates staffroles and responsibilities with all team members (includingparaprofessionals)
  • Organizes instructional materials and ensuresaccessibility of materials to staff prior to instructional delivery
  • Keeps up to date with developments in on-line learning program,teaching resources, and methods and makes relevant changes toinstructional plans and activities
  • Plans, prepares and deliversdaily group instruction utilizing Social Thinking and KEYSphilosophies and curriculum
Qualifications:
  • Holds a validteaching license from an accredited College or University, licensedin Special Education with endorsements in Special Education withendorsements in Emotional Disabilities (ED), Special EducationGeneral Curriculum K-12 or another Special Education Degree withsufficient time, training, and ability to carry out the dutiesinvolved.
  • Maintains qualifications necessary to perform theduties of KEYS Academy Teacher. Completion of competency baseduniversal precautions training.
  • Completion of competency basedde-escalation and physical restraint crisis intervention techniquestraining. Completion of competency based training in safetransportation of students. Completion of competency basedmedication administration training.
  • Completion of competencybased Confidentiality training.
  • Completion of competency basedEthics training.

Proof of maintaining CPR/First Aid certification.

Completion of APEX, Hybridge, and LEXIA training (on-line learningprograms). Be Well with
