Job Description
Teach subjects to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Plan curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, considering state and school requirements, and the physical and educational level of development of the student. Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to develop individual educational program for students. Instruct students in all academic subjects and create learning materials geared to each student’s ability and interest. Instruct students, using special educational strategies and techniques, to assure that students acquire the best possible education. Work with students to assure they are learning to the best of their abilities and conduct a continuous assessment of the student’s level of education, and continuous feedback to students for all learning activities. Work with parents to accept and develop skills in dealing with their child’s deafness and hard of hearing.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Education of Deaf & Hard of Hearing, or a related field. New York State Teaching Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing required. Jobs located in Brooklyn or Bronx, NY in a New York City Public School within the New York City Department of Education’s jurisdiction.
