The Role:

Prospect Schools is seeking a data-oriented and mission-driven Math Special Education Teacher, who will help differentiate instruction and learning approaches as needed in mathematics in both push-in and pull-out small group settings. You will help to create a classroom that is a warm, well-structured, and organized learning environment where consistent routines and expectations are set for your students and for yourself. Our goal is to offer students numerous chances to try, fail, and grow. We rely on data to inform progress and our decision-making process, all while engaging in culturally responsive pedagogy. At all times, Prospectors — students and staff alike — should strive for deeper and higher-order questioning and thinking.

Job Responsibilities:

Differentiates instruction and learning approaches as needed in literacy and mathematics in both an ICT setting and one small 12:1 class. Possesses a deep understanding of the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities, including how to support students’ executive functioning challenges.
Work closely with our school Principal and fellow teachers to continuously improve and iterate on relevant curricula.
Use assessment data, student work, and other information to inform plans for student and class objectives.
Operate with the belief that all students can and want to learn.
Prioritize each student’s academic and social-emotional development.

Classroom Environment:

Set the tone of the classroom as a positive place that fosters both high expectations and student voice and expression Set clear expectations and institute routines in order to create a purposeful, supportive, and warm environment for learning
Build a classroom community that uses culturally sustaining practices to ensure that students feel safe, valued, and respected by adults and their peers

Parent Partnership:

Build relationships and provide ongoing progress updates through regular communication with the families of all students in your classroom Utilize family and student feedback to continuously improve the learning experience for your students
Coordinate and facilitate meetings with families on both an ad hoc basis and during regularly scheduled events, such as

About You:

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in education strongly preferred
NYS teaching certification preferred
Extensive experience developing IEP including Present Levels of Performance and individualized academic and socio-emotional goals
Ability to utilize multi-sensory techniques to help students develop foundational skills in literacy and mathematics
Create opportunities for students to build self-advocacy skills.
An active community builder who believes in collaborating across teams and functions in order to achieve results.

Salary:

Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is from $63,960-$106,995. Employees hired as certified NY certified Special Education, STEM, or Spanish teachers at any campus may qualify for a one time, for a one-time sign-on bonus of up to $3,000.
