Job Summary:

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal or other appropriate administrator. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: Work directly with students to provide specially designed and/or supplemental instruction specific to students’ needs. Collaborate with the general education teacher to adjust the learning environment and/or modify and adapt instructional techniques and methods to meet individual student needs. Co-plan with general education teachers and provide instruction for students with disabilities in accordance with NYS mandates and standards. Work as a case manager, developing, implementing, and evaluating Individual Education Plans (IEP) to meet student needs. Work on a multidisciplinary team to foster collaborative planning and an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Implement a student centered approach to learning, encouraging student agency and student autonomy. Apply a team approach to student support, collaborating with the student, families, classroom teachers, and mental health staff. Effectively communicate with school staff, parents/guardians, and community agencies. Participate in on-going training.
