Job Description UncommonSpecial Education teachers are passionate about developing andmonitoring accommodations for students with special needs. SpecialEducation teachers advocate for students and believe thatspecialized instruction and related services increase academicachievement. Special Education teachers offer academic, emotional,and physical support while maintaining high expectations.

Responsibilities 1. Instruction

  • You’ll modify, differentiate, andteach an inclusive curriculum that emphasizes diversity.
  • You’llcollaborate with families and Special Education teams to develop504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that offerappropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • You’ll create aninclusive and safe environment where students feel empowered tobecome self-guided learners. 2. Special Education SpecificResponsibilities
  • You’ll collaborate with general educationteachers, school leaders, and families to analyze and respond totrends in student work samples and assessments and ensurecompliance with Individualized Education Plans.
  • You will gatheracademic growth data and write goals to prepare for annual IEPmeetings.
  • You will teach pull-out, push-in, small group, andone-on-one instruction and implement strategies to differentiateinstruction for all learners in your classroom. 3. School Culture
  • You’ll build positive relationships with students to ensure theyfeel seen, loved, and heard.
  • You’ll partner with students’families to ensure appropriate resources are available to supporttheir child’s learning needs.
  • You’ll engage in practice-basedprofessional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • You’ll participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivatecommunity, model our core values, and encourage studentachievement.
  • You’ll partner with your grade level team to developacademic goals and practice instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’social emotional and academic development
  • An enthusiasm forcollaborating with internal and external partners in the bestinterest of students
  • A self-directed learner who solicits andimplements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
  • Required Experience:
  • A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experiencepreferred).
  • Academic expertise in Special Education, theHumanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields of study.
  • Prior to the start of employment, you must have a bachelor’s degreefrom an accredited college or university.

Certification is notrequired to be hired at Uncommon, but you do need to meet NY statecertification eligibility requirements. To meet these requirements,you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPAof 2.5 or higher during your employment with us if you do not havea degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required tobecome certified in the state of New York within a reasonableperiod after beginning employment. Additional Information Ourpeople are what make us Uncommon. Ourcompensation philosophy values equity & fairness and attracting &retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation for this role isbetween $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determined usingvarious factors including but not limited to relevant full-timeteaching experience, education certifications, and tenure withUncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experiencewill likely have a starting salary of $50,000. Benefits
