Function of Position:

Reporting to the Coordinator for Course-Based Learning Assistance, Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are current or recent MCC students who work with other students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. SI Leaders are embedded directly into a course to model best practices and serve as a liaison between faculty and students. SI Leaders lead weekly collaborative sessions outside of class time to help students with discipline-specific content, learning strategies, time-management, and problem solving.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Foster the development of independent, intentional learners Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content Help students understand and use effective learning strategies Provide support in one or more sections of a historically difficult course Attend class regularly Plan and lead group learning sessions outside of class Combine “how to learn” with “what to learn,” to facilitate student learning, help students better understand concepts or applications of course content, and promote higher order thinking and problem solving Engage students in collaborative learning Foster independence in learning through the Socratic method and other questioning strategies Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters

Current MCC Student Two faculty letters of reference Course transcripts with As and Bs in the courses for which they wish to tutor Technology savvy

Pay Rate:
