Responsibilities:
The Career Development Specialist role is to conduct career exploration activities with youth to support them wirh job readiness opportunities in line with other overall goals. A Career Development Specialist also supports Coaches in career planning with the youth. 1. Provides support and assistance with any on-site job readiness program(s) including enrollment and scheduling of program cycles as well as any on-site internship programs (e.g., Mentored Internship Program/SYEP) 2. Meets ongoing with youth who are on a vocational pathway, or who have left college, to explore alternative post-secondary pathways and career paths in line with their interests and skills. Also meets with youth who are enrolled in college to conduct career planning 3. Helps youth develop or refine their resumes and conduct career assessments as well as assists with job applications, when needed 4. Helps youth apply to external programs, including vocational and workforce development programs 5. Builds relationships with external programs and employers to serve as pipeline as well as checks-in with employers after the 3-month, 6-year, and 1-year mark to verify persistence The New York Foundling is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse employee population, the Foundling will honor your experiences, perspectives and unique identity. Qualifications:
Demonstrated strong commitment to safety. Bachelor’s degree in human/social service-related field (including education, psychology, social work, or a related subject area) At least 2 years of relevant experience in career planning or related field with some child welfare experience Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, time management and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines, & prioritize multiple tasks efficiently Ability to work with diverse population and work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, youth development lens Ability to receive and execute feedback to professionally grow and/or improve and be flexible with programmatic needs and changes
Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
Salary Range:
: $52,350 – $59,650
