Job Description:

Under the direction of the Director, Professional Legal Studies & Corrections Education Program, the Admissions and Career Pathway Specialist plays a vital role in the recruitment, enrollment, and academic success of Extension School students. This role emphasizes inclusive outreach, student-centered advising, and the development of educational and career pathways for diverse student populations, including those from marginalized and justice-impacted backgrounds. The Specialist works closely with prospective students to provide tailored enrollment coaching and academic advisement, develop partnerships with employers and community organizations, and engage in on-the-ground recruitment through events and presentations. The Specialist is responsible for supporting institutional goals around educational equity and access, particularly for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. Recruitment, Outreach and Enrollment Advising Present Extension School programs to diverse audiences, highlighting career pathways, funding options, and enrollment opportunities. Conduct face-to-face recruitment, networking, and presentations across community, educational, and employer settings. Use the Slate CRM system to manage prospective student records, communications, and reporting. Identify and engage potential students across various industry sectors, with a focus on building pipelines for underrepresented and justice-impacted learners. Provide one-on-one coaching to align students’ educational plans with personal and professional goals. Assist students with academic planning and course registration. Represent the institution at college fairs, community events, and on-campus/off-campus functions. Career Pathways and Employer Engagement Design and deliver training sessions in collaboration with employers to help students understand and prepare for workforce demands. Participate in benchmarking and employer outreach to inform programming with current labor market trends and industry needs. Support career fairs, workforce readiness programs, and other student development initiatives. Equity, Access, and Justice-Impacted Student Support Provide informed, compassionate support to justice-impacted students, addressing barriers related to incarceration, poverty, and systemic inequality. Travel regularly to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections to support currently incarcerated students. Maintain deep awareness of racial and economic disparities and advocate for equitable access to education within institutional and public systems.

Requirements:

Experience in admissions, student advising, outreach, workforce development, or related fields (e.g., human resources, sales, training). Willingness to travel to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections campus on a year-round, daily basis. Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Must complete the Rhode Island Department of Corrections training and be cleared for facilities access. Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences. Demonstrated intercultural fluency and experience supporting students from marginalized backgrounds. Knowledge of college and community resources and ability to connect students to support services. Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends) and travel to off-campus and correctional facilities. Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate student records and communications. Preferred Bachelor’s degree or in progress. Bilingual (Spanish fluency preferred). Experience working with justice-impacted individuals and an understanding of mass incarceration’s impact on education. Experience in higher education administration, especially in areas such as academic advising, financial aid, or student services. Familiarity with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections or similar settings. At the University’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
