JOB PURPOSE

The Career Specialist supports participants receiving employment services in achieving goals, dreams, and desires as outlined in the participant’s Individual Service Plan (ISP). The Career Specialist serves mainly in the capacity of job development, engaging with businesses in the community aligned with the mutual goal of securing meaningful employment for those receiving services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate with Associate Directors and Service Coordinators on all participant matters including potential job leads and emerging interests beyond current employment position Collaborate with employer(s) in assessing business needs and in utilizing a variety of strategies and techniques, securing a mutually beneficial hire in which the job seeker and business are satisfied. Assess participant skills and needs, both within businesses and other settings using a variety of methods and tools. Develop Individual Plans for Employment, including but not limited to job search plans, business proposals, coaching/retention plans, etc. Counsel and train participant in all aspects of the job Provide initial and ongoing training to Community Job Coaches relating to business sites and Individual Plans for Employment Implement strategies that facilitate the successful integration of the participant with cultural diversities into the workforce Network with similar personnel from other community-based professional organizations The Career Specialist also supports Youth in Transition Services, to which they may work in educational settings, including schools and transition academies

JOB REQUIREMENTS

18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent Current driver’s license Adequate auto insurance coverage Safe driving record Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment Career Specialists are required to transport participants in their own personal vehicle during shift.

Preferred:

Possess certifications and competency in providing supported employment services and have a working knowledge of current job development best practices.

Preferred:

At least 3 years’ experience supporting people with disabilities in the workforce. Additional Requirements Career Specialist is often a 1:1 service, Career Specialists must be able to competently work independent of an on-site supervisor requiring the Career Specialist to be highly motivated to task management and completion with a strong emphasis on communication Career Specialists are expected to work flexible hours, including but not limited to nights and weekends Career Specialists also may be asked to fill the role of the “Job Coach – Fogarty Businesses” and “Community Job Coach” as outlined in their job descriptions
