Job Description UncommonSpecial Education teachers are passionate about developing andmonitoring accommodations for students with special needs. SpecialEducation teachers advocate for students and believe thatspecialized instruction and related services increase academicachievement. Special Education teachers offer academic, emotional,and physical support while maintaining high expectations.

Responsibilities 1. Instruction You’ll modify, differentiate, andteach an inclusive curriculum that emphasizes diversity. You’llcollaborate with families and Special Education teams to develop504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that offerappropriate accommodations and modifications. You’ll create aninclusive and safe environment where students feel empowered tobecome self-guided learners. 2. Special Education SpecificResponsibilities You’ll collaborate with general educationteachers, school leaders, and families to analyze and respond totrends in student work samples and assessments and ensurecompliance with Individualized Education Plans. You will gatheracademic growth data and write goals to prepare for annual IEPmeetings. You will teach pull-out, push-in, small group, andone-on-one instruction and implement strategies to differentiateinstruction for all learners in your classroom. 3. School CultureYou’ll build positive relationships with students to ensure theyfeel seen, loved, and heard. You’ll partner with students’ familiesto ensure appropriate resources are available to support theirchild’s learning needs. You’ll engage in practice-basedprofessional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions. You’llparticipate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community,model our core values, and encourage student achievement. You’llpartner with your grade level team to develop academic goals andpractice instructional strategies. Qualifications A demonstratedcommitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academicdevelopment An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal andexternal partners in the best interest of students A self-directedlearner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomesand achieve objectives

Required Experience:

A demonstrated interestin impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2years experience preferred). Academic expertise in SpecialEducation, the Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fieldsof study. Prior to the start of employment, you must have abachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Teachercertification is not a prerequisite for consideration at UncommonSchools in the state of NJ, but you do need to meet NJ statecertification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate orgraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff arerequired to become certified in the state of New Jersey within areasonable period after beginning employment. AdditionalInformation Our people are what make us Uncommon. Our compensation philosophy values equity & fairness andattracting & retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation forthis role is between $56,000 to $80,000. Starting pay is determinedusing various factors including but not limited to relevantfull-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenurewith Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teachingexperience will likely have a starting salary of $56,000.
