Job Summary:

Teacher for Residents of Substance Abuse Center Full Time Position – Year Round School Develops, organizes, and delivers educational services to adolescents participating in treatment at the adolescent residential treatment center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an education program in accordance with the requirements of the facility and the needs of the clients
  • Assess the educational needs of individual clients in collaboration with the home school; and maintain contact with the home school for exchange of materials including text, lesson plans, tests and reports
  • Develop an education plan for clients, conduct educational sessions, maintain appropriate and timely communication with family, educational and referral sources, and facilitate school re-entry upon discharge or referral to a GED program for completion of GED requirements
  • Ensure personnel receive timely, complete and documented orientation and training
  • Interact professionally with the nursing staff, and other department manager to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all departments of the organization Coordinates the required in-services annually, i.e., safety, fire/emergency preparedness, infection control, basic cardiac life support
  • Facilitate a GED program for transitional living clients in other CADAS programs
  • Support and carry out the organization’s policies and procedures
  • Provide materials, develop GED preparation exercised, conducts sessions, and assist clients individually with GED requirements
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, nurse and administration
  • Complete all documentation including education plans, progress notes and discharge summaries
  • Communicate with counselors regarding school progress, behavior, etc.
  • Assist with the coordination of performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Responsible for developing a budget for the Education Department; ability to write grant proposals if necessary
  • Perform management activities including reports, presentations, evaluations, maintains educational records for the organization
  • Documentation meets standards and regulations
  • Ability to serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and medical staff, students and ancillary staff members
  • Perform all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and TJC regulations related to the organization
  • Effectively and consistently communicate administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions
  • Treat clients and families with respect and dignity; ensures client confidentiality
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and organized
  • Study current trends, new technology, new teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars, conferences, professional societies
  • Use two identifiers for each client served to ensure identification
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Regulatory Requirements:
  • Tennessee State Teacher Certification Grades 6-12
  • Special Education Licensure – willing to obtain endorsement within a timely manner Ex Ed Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A minimum of one-year experience in a similar environment is preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Personal cell phone will used for two factor authentication
Language Skills:
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Additional languages preferred
Skills:
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to operate equipment: Projectors, audio/visual equipment, cameras, other equipment used in instruction and client care
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:

$22.00 – $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week
