Non-exempt Job Goal:
To assist the special education services teacher in providing instructional and support services for maximum student achievement To assist teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences for pre-kindergarten students To assist teacher in developing a safe, healthy learning environment To assist teacher in providing small group instruction To assist teacher with preparation and organization of instructional materials To encourage involvement of the families of the students in the special education program
Qualifications:
Must be at least 19 years of age Must possess a high school diploma or GED Associate’s degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment Must possess a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution •
Note:
Official transcripts of college coursework or a copy of the Child Development Associates (CDA) credential for all new auxiliary teachers must be submitted to the OSR no later than 30 days from hire date. Transcripts must be officially mailed directly to the OSR, sealed and unopened, or sent electronically to the OSR from the actual regionally accredited institution. All college coursework must be from an institution that has received regional accreditation. Appropriate experience (at least 12 months) working experience in Early Childhood or experience in other Office of School Readiness approved settings preferred Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification /licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Ability and willingness to work in a highly demanding, stressful environment Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with students, parents and others Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions Physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity and mobility to perform job responsibilities Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback .Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
(Including, but not limited to, the following) Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities Provides one hundred eighty (180) days of children’s program and attends seven (7) days of pre/post planning and/or staff training Plan and coordinate regularly with classroom teachers as necessary Works with individuals and groups of students to reinforce learning of skills initially introduced by the teachers Helps student’s master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher Assists the teachers in preparing materials necessary for a positive learning environment Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations Assists in fostering positive student attitudes toward citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism Takes all the necessary precautions to provide for the safety and welfare of others Attends and participate in individual, school, system, and state professional development activities Maintains a cooperative working relationship with school staff, parents, and community Promotes good public relations for school system with the general public Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies Assists in making any reports required by the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, or the Office of School Readiness Attends all training offered for a total of thirty (30) hours of professional development opportunities as provided by the Office of School Readiness (OSR) and the Fayette County School system Participates in the efficient and effective operation of the school as directed by the Principal Performs other related and appropriate duties as requested by the teachers, principal, and/or the Superintendent of Schools Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor(s)
Terms of Employment:
Nine-month (187 days / 7.5 hours per day) position in accordance with the Fayette County Board of Education’s salary schedule.
