REPORTS TO

Principal and P-K Teacher

JOB GOAL

To assist the Pre-K teacher in achieving identified instructional/behavioral objectives and to help students take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of college-level education; Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate preferred An earned Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least nine (9) credit hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education and Child Development Prior experience working with early childhood students preferred Knowledge and understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning Physically able to participate in restraint training and participate in restraint of a student, if needed Physically able to carry out tasks requiring moderate physical exertion Ability to use current technology Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups Ability to work as a member of a team Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, local law, and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities Perform tasks related to classroom instruction while under the supervision of a certified teacher Assist early childhood students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present and/or reinforce learning concepts. Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher Guide independent study, enrichment work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher Discern stages of child development/age-appropriate activities Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use Monitor individual students, classrooms, library, playground activities, etc., to ensure a safe and positive learning environment Help with extra duties related to the supervision of students (lunch periods, bus duties, assemblies, field trips, etc.) Adhere to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
