Job Description:

We are seeking a committed and adaptable Long-Term Substitute Instructional Assistant to support student learning during an extended absence of regular staff. The individual in this role will collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a consistent and supportive educational environment, assisting students in achieving their academic goals. This job description outlines the core duties and responsibilities for the position. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all tasks that may be required in this role. The ideal candidate should be flexible and adaptable in meeting the evolving needs of the District.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in delivering lesson plans and instructional activities under the guidance of certified teachers. Provide academic and behavioral support to students across various educational settings. Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, and other school areas as required. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success. Reinforce classroom routines and expectations to ensure an orderly educational atmosphere. Support individualized or small group instruction tailored to diverse learning needs. Aid in organizing classroom materials and preparing educational resources. Adapt to different grade levels and subject areas as necessary. Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members. Adhere to school policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Qualifications:
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field preferred.

Experience:

Prior experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities. Capacity to follow instructions and adapt to various classroom environments. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Ability to manage student behavior and maintain a structured setting. Flexibility and reliability in fulfilling long-term assignment responsibilities.

Regulatory Compliance:

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), there are no specific educator qualification requirements for educational support staff, such as instructional assistants, who are not lead core academic teachers. However, all educational support staff must receive direct supervision from a licensed teacher.

Additional Requirements:

Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts regulations. Completion of any required training or certifications upon hire, including first aid, CPR, and behavior management training.

Work Conditions:

May involve standing for extended periods, lifting, or assisting students with mobility needs. Full-time schedule with hours corresponding to the regular school day during the assignment period. Collaborative and supportive school environment dedicated to student achievement.

Compensation and Benefits:

Temporary Full-Time Position in accordance with the established Substitute Teacher Scale. This position is not eligible for any Benefits.
