Durham, NC Job Details Part-time $125 – $135 a day 1 day ago Qualifications CPR Certification Early childhood education High school diploma or GED First Aid Certification Classroom experience Communication skills Child Development Associate Certification Entry level Full Job Description The Substitute Teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children in the Head Start program. This role supports daily classroom activities, ensures compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, and fosters positive interactions with children, families, and staff. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Implement lesson plans and activities based on the Head Start curriculum Create an engaging, structured environment that supports child development Assist children with daily routines, including meals, hygiene, and playtime Use positive behavior management techniques to support socialemotional development Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and hazardfree classroom Follow all Head Start and FCR policies regarding supervision and emergency procedures Work closely with teaching staff, assistants, and family support workers Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about child progress and concerns Support an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment Follow Head Start regulations, state licensing requirements, and FCR policies Maintain attendance records and complete basic reports as needed Assist in preparing materials for classroom activities Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) High school diploma or GED required; CDA (Child Development Associate) or higher preferred Experience working with young children in an educational setting preferred CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Strong communication and teamwork skills Patience, flexibility, and ability to adapt to different classroom environments Understanding of early childhood education principles
Additional Requirements:
Position may require flexibility in schedule, as substitutes are called in as needed Must pass a background check and meet health/safety requirements
