Substitute Teacher Achievement Charter Academy 25 Buttonwood Court, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526

Substitute Teacher:

• We are unable to provide sponsorship at this time.• Achievement Charter Academy’s mission is to foster individual achievement by teaching students to be self-directed learners and community contributors in a respectful, diverse, and inclusive learning environment. ACA uses the Glasser Quality School (GQS) model as a guide to create a school culture that teaches and uses Choice Theory to support relationships based on trust and respect. The GQS model emphasizes Total Learning Competency and producing Quality Work to encourage self-directed learning and individual achievement. The model emphasizes the value of respect, diversity, inclusion, and community and promotes a school environment that is viewed by stakeholders as a joyful place. The substitute is responsible for providing classroom coverage for a teacher who is absent for either a short or long period of time. The substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum designated Achievement Charter Academy and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in administrative regulations and procedures of Achievement Charter Academy. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices, if assigned. If in the capacity of a long term sub: Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course / SCoS standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior in accordance with ACA policies and procedures. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and behavioral challenges. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.

Qualifications/ Skills:

Possess familiarity with the subject(s) being taught. Demonstrate some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public. Willingness to use and apply the Choice Theory model.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree required. No license is required but preference may be given to those eligible for, or in possession of, appropriate North Carolina Licensure. Previous teaching/tutoring experience required.

Compensation:

$20. $25 (licensed). We follow a traditional calendar model with school being in session from August to June.
